How it's calculated

Every monthly instalment is compounded quarterly for the months it remains invested, then all instalments are added together for the maturity value. Because earlier deposits compound for longer, they contribute more interest than later ones. The interest earned is the maturity minus your total deposits.

Each deposit grows as deposit × (1 + rate/400) ^ (months invested ÷ 3). Interest is taxable at your slab; TDS may apply.

Frequently asked questions

Can I miss a deposit?
Banks usually charge a small penalty for missed instalments and may close the RD after repeated misses — this tool assumes every instalment is paid on time.
Senior citizen rates?
Seniors typically get 0.25–0.75% extra; just enter the higher rate.
How does it compare to FD?
An FD invests a lump sum once; an RD builds up through monthly deposits, so for the same rate an FD of the full amount earns more. See the FD calculator.
