How it works

The tool opens your PDF in the browser and reads the text layer page by page, keeping line and paragraph breaks where it can. The extracted text appears in an editable box so you can tidy it up, then it's packaged into a .doc file that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. Everything happens locally, so your PDF is never uploaded.

Works on digital, text-based PDFs. Scanned documents are images and need OCR, which this tool does not do. Images, columns and exact layout are not carried over — you get clean, editable text.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my scanned PDF coming out blank?
A scan is a picture of a page with no underlying text, so there is nothing to extract. You'd need an OCR tool to recognise the text first.
Can I edit before downloading?
Yes — the text box is fully editable. Fix any spacing or breaks, then download.
Need the other direction?
Use the Word to PDF converter to turn a .docx into a PDF.
